Bruin Guardian Scholars

Established in 2009, the UCLA Bruin Guardian Scholars (BGS) Program is dedicated to empowering youth who have experienced any of the following out of home living: foster care, kinship care, guardian placement, placement in a group home or other institutional care setting, placement in a transitional living arrangement, dependent/non-minor dependent or ward of the court, probation youth as ward of the court, or extended foster care (AB 12). Our mission is to provide holistic support, create a welcoming and inclusive community, and champion the holistic wellness and academic success of every BGS student. Together, we’re building pathways for Bruins to thrive—on campus and beyond!

The UCLA McKinney Vento (MKV) Initiative is currently housed under the Bruin Guardian Scholars Program. This initiative aims to foster academic success by providing community, case management, and support with basic needs for students who identify as homeless by the McKinney-Vento Act. MKV scholars receive the same benefits as our BGS students.
